Auto theft drops as car makers fight
back |
Statistics show that whilst car theft
rates have dropped, it is still a common crime. The NMVTRC's Executive
director Ray Carroll believes the country has come a long way in
reducing car theft, but much of this has been against lower-end
criminals rather than professional car thieves. He believes that
removing the economic incentive for thieves will have an even greater
impact. Studies have been carried out on cars that have been fitted
with microdot technology, and Carroll states that results point to a
60-70% reduction in theft of cars with microdot protection. |

with MightDot (microdot technology). They plan to use the scheme as a
pilot to assess the viability of extending discounts across other
models that fit the system as standard. Esure and First Alternative,
Chairman- Peter Wood, said "As insurers we are always looking at ways
to reduce, or ideally prevent car theft and insurance fraud. We
believe this system is worth backing". |

Microdots Fight Vehicle Theft |
Since DataDots launch in South Africa ,
there has been a considerable reduction in vehicle theft, and a
significant increase in stolen vehicle recovery. Clients such as
Clarendon Transport Avis have reported successes in vehicle recovery.
Pat Obrien, Executive Director of Avis, said car theft has been
difficult to combat because of the lack of adequate vehicle
identification. He believes microdot technology should change that.
The Vehicle Security Association (VESA) has launched a new 'vehicle
identification category' with DataDot as its first member, due to
DataDots effectiveness in lowering the crime rate. |
